DIY – fun!
EVERYONE knows how much I love love love DIY.
So when I saw this I felt I must most definitely share
Dulux Bootcamp Paint Technique
Material needed/ Shopping list:
- Magazine Holder (or an item you’d like to give a makeover)
- Quick drying wood glue
- Paint Brushes
- Clear craft varnish
- Dulux Acrylic PVA paint in a colour of your choice (Melanie uses Dulux Blue Diamond 5)
- Gilders paste (gold)
- Masking tape
Start by applying masking tape to the areas of the magazine holder that you do not want painted. Then scrunch up the piece of newspaper into a ball without tearing it; the idea is to crinkle the paper so ensure the result is quite textured.
Apply the quick drying wood glue to the surface of the item (magazine holder). Spread the glue evenly on the surface. While the glue is still wet, paste the scrunched up newspaper onto the item without flattening out the crinkles, just pat it down; you want a textured effect. Use your fingers to pinch the newspaper to accentuate the effect.
Trim the excess newspaper with the scissors and glue down any loose pieces of paper.
Paint the textured surface with a Dulux Acrylic PVA colour of your choice. Dulux Acrylic PVA is a water-based paint that is quick drying, making it perfect for craft projects.
Apply the gilders paste to the ridges of the now painted paper to create a 3-D effect. Use a sponge to spread the paste around evenly.
Finally, carefully remove the masking tape and spray the final product with craft varnish to seal the item and help to protect it from wear and tear.
