Tolerance – a word that some people need to put into practise more often.

There are the obvious moments of tolerance that everyone is reminded of by others such as tolerating stupidity and tolerating traffic and tolerating the neighbours dog when it attempts to hump your leg..

But what about the ‘not so obvious’ intolerance that is so often displayed? Intolerance is a form of hatred, it breeds an environment of discord and creates unhappiness, sadness and anger to all those affected.

And don’t think that just because you say something in jest that it doesn’t count. No way…because as we all know, NO truer word is spoken that that in ‘Jest’.

Be aware of how your feelings of something  or someone different to you makes others feel. How your joking intolerance of them or their behaviour makes them feel. Put yourself in their position and ask yourself if this is how you would like to be treated.

Here is a list of intolerance that I am sure that we are all guilty of at some point or other. I suggest you read this list and think about how your intolerance may have made a negative impact:

  • Fat people intolerant of “skinny bitches”
  • Thin people intolerant of “fat slobs”
  • IT people intolerant of  “pobkac users”
  • IT illiterates intolerant of “geeks”
  • Sporty types intolerant of “pencil pushers”
  • Academics intolerant of “Stupid Jocks”
  • Those intolerant of a culture different to theirs
  • Being intolerant of “learner drivers”
  • Poor/middle class intolerant of “rich snobs”
  • Rich/Influentional intolerant of the “trailer trash”
  • Short people intolerant of “Hows the weather up there  – Tall people”
  • Tall people intolerant of “kneehugging shorties”
  • iPhone users and their intolerance for “BB users”
  • BB users and their intolerance of “iPhone fanboys”
  • Drivers intolerant of “cyclists”
  • Intolerance of Gay/Homosexual people
  • Intolerance of Artistic types
  • How the older generation is intolerant of “the youth these days icon razz Sharpen your Skillset..
  • The younger generation intolerant of “Old Fogies”
  • Intolerance for “Cat/Dog/Animal lovers”
  • Lack of Tolerance for “Vegetarians”
  • Lactose intolerance icon razz Sharpen your Skillset..
  • The intolerance of those that dress differently or unfashionable
  • How intolerant a non parent is towards small children and parents of small children
  • The Intolerance of those that firmly believe in Aliens/Ghosts and Santa
  • The Intolerance of unmarried couples living together “in sin”
  • Intolerant attitude towards Bisexual/crossdressers

……this list can go on.. and I am sure you have already thought up a few of your own.

There are times when intolerance is excepted and even embraced, but that is reserved for true crimes against all that is good and holy such as rape, murder and drug dealers..

But for most of the time, in most cases of life.. we are all too quick to judge, to sneer and to mock others who are different to us. To discriminate against the pretty, the ugly, the rich and the poor. And barely blink as we believe that we are correct.

I think we should all learn the art of tolerance and apply the necessary filters to combat ignorance and unnecessary harm.

Just my two cents.. feel free to ignore it if you want to icon wink Sharpen your Skillset..

Well said. I’m guilty of one of the above you mentioned, something I’m trying to look past and accept but battling. It grates me no end.
