Yes you can. All you need is some family members to witness the ceremony and some champagne afterwards to celebrate it. Sorted. Your loved ones will be happy for you whether you have the bells and whistles wedding or not.

I have had this debate too. Weddings are damn expensive, and when the caterers, venue hire etc hear the word wedding they basically double the price.
Why not get married in a court with close family as witnesses and spend a quarter the amount of money on a “party” (what you tell the service providers) and call that your wedding reception. (You can do everything the same: eg, cake, speeches, 1st dance etc).
I’m all for eloping. With the cost of a wedding these days, I’d rather spend that money on the honeymoon or the house.
I have actually mentioned this same thing to David a few times.
I will get the dress I want and we can head off to the pastor who advertises his services with a huge sign outside his house saying “wedding with a difference” and just do it!
