I spent days debating various models. I had deliberated the pro’s and cons and slowly narrowed the list down to one.
I was elated. I could finally throw away the stupid papers littering my desk. My search has come to an end. I have a winner surrounded by losers.. I then tweeted about it.,<–obvious mistake, because I was then told reasons why its a kak phone.. and how there are better options out there.
Fuckity fuck. (yes I am swearing!)
So I am now unsure once more…
Here are the phones now(back) in the running:-
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1
The good – Qwerty Keyboard
The bad -3.2mp camera and I am not loving the look of it…looks porno
Nokia N97
The good -qwerty keyboard, looks sexy
The bad – Has a S60 OS, was looking for something different.
HTC Touch Diamond
The good -Nice res, Qwerty Keyboard
The bad -3MP camera, Small Battery Life
Apple iPhone 3G
The good – uhm…its…uhm…Its got a touch screen!(looks pretty too)
The bad – No MMS, 2MP camera, etc, etc,
Samsung i900 Omnia
The good – Nice Big screen, Sexy Lines, 5Mp camera, Comes with a full carkit for GPS
The bad – NO Qwerty Keyboard and the Stylus is a clingon..
…… I have to choose soon. I am itching to play with a new phone!
Feedback, Feedback… Go crazy!

I would go with the iPhone, apparantly you can do MMS now (do you actually ever MMS though?) and not sure what the etc etc is? As for the Camera, 2MP is usually sufficient for phone / web use. Its when you need to print that you appreciate anything bigger.
or the N97, it really does look promising and its not ye ol S60, its the new Ericsonnified S60 5th edition (with bits of Ericssons UIQ).

I’ve got an iPhone so you porbably know what I’m going to say. Apple all the way.
I am so in love with this phone it’s sick.

I was in your shoes 4 months ago, and pretty much had the same selection dilemma you’ve got.
It came down to a Nokia N85 and a Samsung INNOV8 (I didn’t want Windows OS)
By Vodacom not having stock of one, I got the INNOV8, and it was a great decision.
In your terms:
Samsung INNOV8:
The Good: 8MP Camera, GPS (free), 16GB internal
The Bad: No QWERTY Keyboard. Not touch screen
The Omnia is getting an upgrade pretty soon which is gonna make it cooler. And, you also didn’t mention the Samsung Pixon which has just arrived here, (8MP, touch, etc).
Your phones on the list are pretty much the same apart from the little subtle differences. Expenses aside, I think I’d go to the N97, purely because of the hype, but good luck.

I’ve owned a phone made by each of those manufacturers except Apple, and Nokia comes out tops every time. The software is the most stable and user friendly. The battery life is always longer than any of the others and the support is awesome. I once had a question about my Nokia E61 which I mailed to the US support centre…they answered me the next day! So I’m Nokia all the way

‘Looks porno’ is a bad thing?
Agree with camera to a certain extent, but the rest of the X1 makes up for it. SOOOO beautiful.
Windows Mobile is awesome too, believe it or not.

iPhone 3G hands down.
Will never get another brand phone again, and I’ve had them all promise.
MMS and all that, is coming with the free OS 3.0 upgrade early next month.
PS Stay away from Windows OS.
I would comment, but I got bogged down looking for a phone for myself.
Although:
The sony one is pretty cool, despite the porno thing…

Sorry, can’t help here except to say that I am sticking with my Samsung D900i. Currently have my second one and will probably get another (unless something really special comes along).
Nothing fancy, but it does what I want it to do … makes calls and sends messages of all types. Pics are OK – you have seen my twitpics, I’m sure!
Been there, done that, don’t want to do it again.
BTW, hubby has a Samsung i780 which has the qwerty, and he’s super happy with that.
Good luck
A colleague has an Omnia and loves it, and I’ve heard good things about the iPhone…
I dunno when I’ll be looking at a new phone though, I just got me (or rather- got given) a new Moto Razr. I do love the Motos.

I will never touch a Nokia again. They’ve gotten to be a real pain in the ass. And as for the iPhone…it’s so pretty but god it lacks in features for the price it goes for.
I would take the SE X1 or the HTC. SE because they haven’t let me down yet and the HTC because I really really want one.
That’s just me though and you should totally go for the one you love, despite all the kak everyone has to say
It’s so exciting, I’m totally jealous!

Hey B,
You have your heart set on the Omnia.
Both the Omnia and the X1 have internal GPS but the Omnia comes with the Garmin software which is lekker.
Take the Omnia, I dont think you will be disappointed. The cling-on stylus will grow on you and the lack of a qwerty keyboard is ok since the Omnia on screen keyboard is nice and large and finger friendly.
Don’t touch the IPhone. It is a nice quality phone, but the software is always pay software and the advanced features of the phone only work with another IPhone (eg sending a business card, bluetooth to transfer music of files etc).
BTW the black X1 does not look so porno, I have the silver one and yes it looks tinny.
I have to disagree on the features comment Goblin.
With the app store, it has limitless features, even besides that the standard stuff is pretty incredible.
Have a look at the free OS update coming out next month here.

Bollocks! Comment got lost.
Anyway, sum it up time cos I ain’t writing that again.
Lucas – the OS update will make a HUGE difference and I’m keen to see how much better it will be. I think my main problem with it is that it requires too much effort to get it performing at the desired level. That and up till now it’s just been a really overpriced accessory. I completely see your point though

wow.. thanks everyone!!
This is going to be a tough one…I can tell
The Nokia N97. It has the most memory and the best camera (5mb). It is also touchscreen with a qwerty keyboard and it does everything and more that the other phones does. The only drawback is its GPS. I’m a firm believer in Garmin GPS (tried and tested).
Anyway, I’m getting myself a N97.
