I really really wanna…Chana??
Have you noticed how certain cars are just iconic??
I have always felt that restored older cars(anything older than 10 years) are far better than newer cars … It is easy to have a sexy sleek new car but this is not as easy an accomplished look with an older “been around the block a few thousand times” car…
And there are those cars that just don’t make it past 10 years with style.. eg. Mitsubishi Tredia LOL!.. How many of those have you seen on the road? And those that you have seen how many of those aren’t dragging their boots behind them? LMFAO!
.
I also don’t know any people who go to bed at night dreaming of a “CHANA” or “MAHINDRA”. Salivating at the bit to get behind the steeringwheel (or spanner) of one of them babies! Quite honestly, A car held together with glue is not what I call a sound investment in longevity. But I suppose there are some people out there who do buy these cars as I see them on the road.. My only question is WHY? But before I think anyone can answer that we need to remember that some people still believe that Mugabi is a great guy…
BUT
mention VW and everyone nods and smiles and starts talking about the torque of this model and the bling of that one..In fact there is a cult following amongst the Indian community here in Durban where there are so many different Golf’s and Jetta’s on the road it is frightening.. At night when they come out to drag racing and breyani swopping* All you can see is flashing blue strobes and hear the thunder from their sounds systems as they debate who has the best intake and who is a NOS junkie!! .. The most popular range of Golf/ Jetta would be your Mach II(golf2 or jetta2). This is a very impressive feat considering that VW is now presently selling the Mach V range and yet the Mach II is still a big name in the secondhand car World.
Nissan might be a nice car but it does not age as well… I am not sure why but I have not really seen many older Nissan models worth a second look as they are normally either neglected or just sad looking..shame man!
.
Toyota cars are not really worth mentioning but they do have some very nice Bakkies and I particularly like their old 4×4 Hilux TwinCab from the 1980′s.. They kickass!! But there arent that many around anymore.. pity!
.
Then there is Opel.. Which I kindly refer to as OuPiel.. It has the dumbest bloodest reverse gear thing that makes mefeel like I have just molested the car… enough said. There are some nice ones still left but generally speaking, spares are very hard to come by and tend to give alot of electrical hassles..
These are but a few I have mentioned…
There are some other cars that I think are really awesome.
Such as – The old Citroen(loved the suspensions on those babies), Fiat & Mini ( very nice nippy cars.. only problem is that when you install a sunroof it needs to be re-registered as a walking ring),Old restored Ford‘s are the absolute MustHave for every middle aged white guy on the road!, etc…
I have a confession though .. I am a VW enthuast! There you are I have admitted this and I am sorry if you own a Nissan or heaven forbid an old Opel.. But I own a VW. And she may not be a new car but she is a beaut and will give most new cars a real run for their money with an newly recon 1800 engine under her bonnet and me behind the wheel…
For now.. I will stick to my VW and all the bling attached to my precious with the peace of mind that my ride has stood the test of time

*Breyani swopping is similiar to wife swopping wherein the woman still play a role only difference is that they use their breyani skills to make themselves more desirable..

Heeey, I quite like restored old Fords as well
Although, my must have car one day is definitely a Chevrolet Impala. Until then I’ll settle for my crappy little car and start wishing my way up to the Chevy. Like maybe after this one I should start wishing for a VW.
lol Goblin – Not sure what a chevrolet Impala looks like.. How about some pictures??

personally, i am an alfa fan… i have never owned one, but i have been ripped off endlessly for my love of them. the new ones are cool- especially the gt & the 159, ooh and the 147 of course, ooh and the spider…
ahem… sorrry. but a lot of the older models are still cool- the original julias and juniors are gawjiss.
i reckon the new nissans are still going to look good in ten or so years…
Alpha Romeo’s may be cool but they arent VW…
